Why Anticipation is a Good Thing

As we leave behind 2012 and enter the land of the unknown in 2013, we can't help but anticipate what lies ahead. For those of us who need incentive to make change in our lives, a fresh start in the new year with endless possibilities is the perfect recipe. As you're creating new hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the year to come, keep in mind that 2013 is your big break from ties of limiting beliefs and toxicity of 2012. Anticipate only great things for 2013 and that is what shall come.

I once read that the best part of a vacation was about a week or two before the trip, aka the "anticipation period". Studies showed that vacationers were more excited about the thought of going rather than when they were actually on the trip. So, what does that tell us? That anticipating something great is the best thing we can do. And why should we not? We have every reason to get excited that something great is on the way, because it is.

Now let's talk about how you can reap the benefits of anticipation:
1. Ups your energy
Think about it, when we're looking forward to something we're pumped! Think of how you feel the days leading up to Christmas, New Year's Eve, a new job, a hot date. You're pretty stoked, and if you're not, you have a very controlled level of emotion. But the majority of the time, your energy level from the anticipation of knowing something good is on the way, is through the roof.

2. You'll attract more of what you want
When you're in a good state of anticipation, everything flows effortlessly and doors open exactly when you need them to. With a high energy level, you become a magnet for all that you want. Conversely with a low level energy, you'll attract more of what you don't want.

For example, every year I look forward to New Year's Eve. I mean, I eat, sleep, and breathe in the new year wayyy before it's happened. This year was no different. With no set plans, (or outfit!), I still anticipated nothing short of an amazing night. While those around me seemed a bit flustered by it all, I was at ease because I knew that it was going to be great. So, two days prior, still with nothing to do, all these plans started showing up. By the time NYE rolled around we had about five different events we could attend, five! That is a miracle right there. Because I was anticipating somethin' good, that's exactly what I got...and then some!

3. You'll focus on what lies ahead, not behind
When you're constantly looking forward to things, you have very little time to focus on what happened in the past. I understand the past brought you to where you are today, but it does not define who you are today, by any means. When you're enjoying what's headed your way, you won't be fixated on what went wrong before. As a society we tend to live in the past and take way too many trips down memory lane. With the anticipation of something good, your mind will become programmed to thinking only good thoughts; in which case you will have no problem bulldozing past those limiting beliefs.

"To grow, you must be willing to let your present and future be totally unlike your past. Your history is not your destiny." ~Alan Cohen

Moral of the story: ANTICIPATE GREATNESS, because it's-a-comin'!

Anticipating an AWESOME year~
