Wednesday Zenday: Read

There are so many benefits to reading a book, yet so little of us do it. When you read, your mind is actively engaged in the now. We are completely engaged by using both sides of the brain. The left side of the brain is the logical, rational, ego-based side that is able to articulate the words as we skim over the page. Whereas the right side of the brain is just the opposite, and allows us to create a mental picture in our heads of what is happening and how we're supposed to be feeling. Through our right brain we drift to a place where all things are possible, where our ideas are limitless.

The benefits to reading are countless. Not only does our vocabulary expand, but we become equipped with a a band of knowledge which we never had before. Depending on the context and material of what you are reading, you could end up inspired enough to try out a new business venture, join a club, or quit old habits. Of course, that all depends on what exactly you're reading. For me, I chose the inspirational/self-help route and ended up here. Where will you end up?

It doesn't have to be extensive and it doesn't have to be challenging to understand, it just has to be something. Read anything. Your zen will increase and you will find it quite enjoyable.

Add~ing zen to you and yours~
