Thursday Yourday: THON

Each year Pennsylvania State University holds a fundraiser called THON. THON is a dance marathon fundraiser that aims to help children fight pediatric cancer. It is it the largest student run philanthropy in the world and continues to top its total raised each year. This past year THON raised $10, 686, 924. 83.

The money goes to The Four Diamonds fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. Even though THON is a yearlong effort, the actual event takes place on a weekend in February. The students involved in the cause take trips with their designated groups such as "Hospitality", "Morale", and "Rules and Regulations". Each group has a captain who is in charge of overseeing the "canning" process, collecting the donations, and organizing meetings. This coming year, THON 2013 will be held from Feb. 15th- 17th.
